Mastering the Right Approach for the Socializer: How to engage and convert better
Meeting a prospect with a socializer persona? Lucky you. With their outgoing nature, active social life and large network of friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and others, socializers are fun people. Extroverted and always open to meeting and sharing stories, they are easy to foster connects with. Expect to be captivated by their energy, enthusiasm and love for life.
But how do you identify a socializer? And how do you tailor your approach to engaging with them?
In modern psychographics, trained AI algorithms pick up user cues and signals from public postings across social media platforms. These are used to identify an individual’s drivers – their values, ethics, mindsets. Based on these it is possible to extrapolate their personas as a socializer, adapter, traditionalist, experience seeker, innovator, risk taker, inspiration seeker, or leader.
Since emotions play a strong role in the final buying journey, psychographic insights are a game changer. Smart marketers who leverage this for focused, targeted marketing, deliver better customer experience and better outcomes for business.
In this blog, we explore the Socializer persona and how to approach this personality type.
Where will you find the socializer?
Of all the personas, the socializer is one which marketers and salespeople enjoy interacting with. Socializers love being in the limelight. They love attention, are talkative, entertaining and ready with a plethora of anecdotes to relate and experiences to share.
Online, a socializer is easily identifiable. Since they love to socialize, they are the most active on social media platforms. They share their pictures, videos, opinions and views without restraint. They freely share where they are, what they are doing, and who they are with. In return they expect validation, interaction and attention.
Offline, you will meet the socializer at all popular events – sporting, musical, art. Any event with people will have the socializer actively involved. They are organizers, or active participants. They are busy networking and make it a point to meet and greet everybody.
Professionally also, socializers will make themselves seen. At office parties and business meetings, they are the ones to take center stage. They are the glue to bring together people. They have an innate love for people and will draw the most crowds at trade shows, and at corporate events. They are skilled at bringing together people to accomplish tasks.
At the same time, it is also crucial to know what they can trip up on. The socializer is not known to be a thinker. They are often impulsive and may have a low regard for rules and processes. Driven more by instinct and spontaneity they are not always thinking long term or about the impact of their actions or speech. A sales or marketing person who reaches out to a socializer must keep in mind their impulsive nature while engaging with them.
How do you tailor the approach?
- Appeal to their need to speak and be heard. Be good listeners. Be empathetic, enthusiastic and positive. Listen to their opinions and viewpoints.
- Mirror their emotions. Socializers connect with those who they can relate to. Join them in their hobbies and experiences. They will be most communicative in their own turf.
- Allow them to lead. Go along with their choices and then gently steer them to your line of conversation and thinking.
- Praise them openly. Share your pride in connecting with them. Express your concurrence with their ideas. They like to be appreciated and often seek validation from others.
- Simplify information. Socializers generally have short attention spans. Conveying information in a concise, simple manner will be more effective than burdening them with detailed data.
- Close fast. Because of their short attention spans, and impulsive behavior, move fast. Do not delay the process to closure with a socializer. It is best to push towards closure definitely once they have expressed their interest. A gap or slowdown in the process and you are sure to lose their interest, so be prepared.
- Seek their opinion. Seeking out their opinion will create a positive response. They are also useful to get real feedback - not just theirs but also responses of multiple users from their network.
- Be pre-emptive. Be ready with answers. Walk them through how the solution can help them in all situations. This will avoid them having to figure it out themselves - which they will appreciate.
- Use their influencer abilities. With their large networks, socializers have a huge following and reach. Use their networks to amplify your message. Get them onboard to share positive experiences in their social networks.
Recognizing personalities is both a science and an art. An extensively used tool in marketing, persona building is a valued skill. When enhanced with psychographics, it dramatically enhances the modern marketer’s ability to generate more MQLs and the salesperson’s ability to convert more deals.
Customizing approach depending on the persona type, improves the odds of conversion. Lack of awareness of their specific traits can result in a loss too. Adopting a customized, persona based approach is therefore an imperative especially when psychographic data and specifically recommended approaches such as the ones for the socializer are readily available for use and application.
